We’ve always heard Peruvian food was good before, but we didn’t know what to expect until we visited. Now we can finally say our stomachs were VERY satisfied with their food! There were so many unique spices given that complimented the dishes perfectly and really brought out the flavors. So here is a list of the top 4 restaurants we loved while in Peru— taste and ambience were rated.

1) MAIDO

TYPE: PERUVIAN x JAPANESE CUISINE

LOCATION: LIMA

AMBIENCE: TRENDY, MODERN FINE DINING

Dining at Maido was mind blowing. We spent over 3 hours here trying out as much of the menu as we could, hoping to never get full because each bite tasted like heaven. Every item was prepared with such specialty with flavors that were so deliciously unique. It definitely lives up to expectations and deserves it’s spot on the World’s Top 50 Restaurants!

Our top menu picks (in no particular order):

  1. Toro with Mustard - Fatty tuna with a mustard seed spread

  2. Crujiente De Foie Nigiri - Crispy sushi rice, river eel, foie mousse, apple drizzled with eel sauce

  3. Intruder Nigiri - Duck foie, eel sauce and Maras salt

  4. Negi Tori Nigiri - Toro rocoto sauce and negi

  5. Salmon and Chilli - salmon belly with yellow pepper sauce

  6. Asado de tira nitsuke - Braised beef short rib cooked for 50 hours

  7. Kansai Yakimeshiv - Japanese style fried rice, seafood, salmon, shrimp omelette, and ankake sauce

  8. Classic Gyoza - Japanese dumplings stuffed with pork and shrimp

  9. Ramen - ramen noodles with a miso base soup

Dress Code— Dress to impress when coming here because the ambience of the restaurant is nice. Wearing something loose wouldn’t be such a bad idea to allow for some stomach expansion room. You’re going to need it :P

We suggest making reservations online in advance since they book up quickly. Also, expect higher prices than the typical Peruvian restaurant since it is upscale. However, for the quality of the food, the prices are very reasonable. Hope you enjoy!

2) CEVICHE SEAFOOD KITCHEN

TYPE: PERUVIAN CUISINE

LOCATION: CUSCO

AMBIENCE: HIP & TRENDY SIT-DOWN WITH BEACHY VIBES

This was our first stop in Peru and it sure did not disappoint! Can you guess what they are known for? Ceviche! Wow...who would have thought! The seafood here is extremely fresh and the flavors are exquisite. The Ceviche, Lomo Saltado, and Aeropuerto de Marisco were our favorites. This restaurant is located right in the center of Cusco and is great for a casual bite. It is also aesthetic AF so we can’t complain.

4) MORENA PERUVIAN RESTAURANT

TYPE: PERUVIAN CUISINE

LOCATION: CUSCO

AMBIENCE: CONTEMPORARY & TRENDY WITH TROPICAL VIBES

Another Peruvian restaurant with the cutest vibes. Walking into this restaurant put instant smiles on our faces. Modern restaurant with delicious food and reasonable prices. What more can you ask for? They had a bunch of great items on their menu, but our favorite dish here was the chicken and mushroom sauce pasta. Also, most peruvian restaurants offer you their complimentary plantain “chips” and it’s always such a treat. We dip them with the sauces they give us on the side.
